My first slow travel experience has me falling in love with Toronto. 🍁

Hey Reader!

Greetings from the beautiful city of Toronto! Yesterday was the Thanksgiving holiday here and the most gorgeous fall day you can imagine!

After time with family and lots of sleep, I have a few thoughts to share about this slower travel experience I’m living. 😊

What’s your typical pace of travel?

Are you more of a slow traveler or do you like to be on the go? I’d love to know! Hit reply and tell me all about it!

Slow has never really been my thing when it comes to travel. 🤷‍♀️

My ADHD brain keeps me on the move, wanting to see and do all the things. This typically means a handful of days in a new place before feeling pulled to see what else is out there.

With weeks still to spend here in Toronto, I have the opportunity to slow down and enjoy the little, everyday activities, like a daily stroll in the neighborhood park to watch the colors change and finding a favorite bakery.

Moving quickly means I always leave a place with a new list of things to see and do “when I come back”, which doesn't always happen. 😖

There are few things in life that I love more than being in a brand new place for the very first time. Those first few days are a wonder-filled adrenaline rush and I can’t get enough of that high!

This is the constant internal tug of war when I travel -- stay put and dig deeper or go to the next unexplored place on my list. When I stay, I love the familiarity that starts to creep in after that shiny sense of wonder has worn off.

Every destination has layers to uncover and you only find them with time. 💯

I’ve already been here in Toronto for nearly two weeks and there’s still so much more I want to see!

During those first days of wide-eyed exploration, I always learn about local gems that are off the main tourist track. Those are my favorite and now I have the time to experience them!

Will this experience change how I travel in the future? 🤔

It’s impossible to say right now. However, this experience reaffirms my appreciation for indie travel and my belief that there is no one “right” way.

Having the option to move slower this time, thanks to my wonderful family being willing to put up with me, I’m having a new kind of travel experience that I will certainly carry forward into future adventures.

And now, an epic view of the city from the shores of the Toronto Islands in Lake Ontario. 🤩

Hey Reader! It’s been one hell of a hot minute since we’ve connected! When I decided to stop writing the Indie Travel Dispatch, I truly didn’t imagine that it would be nearly a year before I’d be back. 🤯 I have no desire to rehash the chaos of 2023, so let’s just say it was a wild ride -- some of the hardest moments of my life mixed with some of the most incredible ones too. Now that the dust has (mostly) settled, I finally have space to think about what comes next. While travel will always...

Hey Reader! It’s the last day of February (my least favorite month), and I’m celebrating by getting ready to welcome Spring. This time of year always brings big changes in my world and this one is no exception. There’s a lot to share with you in this email, so it’s a bit longer than usual. I hope you’ll stick with me. Truth: Life is one grand exercise in letting go. Learning to let go starts when we’re small. Friends move away, our teachers change from year to year and, eventually, we have...

Hey Reader! Here we are. A new year and it’s time for new adventures! Are you ready to explore more this year? Join me on this adventure! 🧭 At the end of 2021, I knew life was going to be wild and that my travels were going to be changing. New experiences and exploration are essential for me, like air or water, so I set the intention to have 100 new experiences over the course of 2022. There were no hard and fast rules, it simply had to give me that little jolt of, “Ooh, this is new and...
