Big life changes bring big travel changes. Here’s what that looks like… 🌎

Hey Reader!

Wow, here we are. Autumn is upon us and it’s time for a change of pace. This is my absolute favorite time of year and I’m welcoming it with open arms after the crazy summer I’ve had! 🍂

What about you? How are you feeling about the arrival of fall?

This change of season is bringing big life changes over here! 💚

Change is inevitable. We know this. The more we can roll with it, the easier it is to find our way forward. When one thing changes (or a whole bunch at once!) that can mean our future plans have to adjust too.

After everything that’s happened over the last month (my parents’ move, launching the course, etc.), I need a minute to reset and explore what life looks like in this new normal. I also need it to be simple. That means…

Flights to Peru are canceled and I’ll be spending the next five weeks in Canada! 🍁

It took a whopping five minutes to cancel all of the plans I’d made for Peru. I didn’t lose a cent -- I now have credit with Delta for what I paid in cash and they refunded the points I’d used.

I purposely booked a refundable accommodation, so no hassle there. I canceled my lunch reservations with a few clicks and that was it. It was a great reminder that change doesn’t have to be difficult!

What will I do with my time in Canada? 🤷‍♀️

Hopefully a lot of this… ⬇

No, really though, my wonderful family has made a few super fun plans for us in Toronto -- a food tour, time playing in the forest, and a Gorillaz concert!

The rest of my time? I have no idea. I’m also not worried about it. I still have intentions to visit the Montreal area but zero actual plans. It will happen or it won’t. The truth is that I’m completely out of fucks to give.

When you’ve made big international travel plans, it can feel like you’re locked in. You’re not! 🔓

You’re never truly stuck. There are always options! For so long -- basically the entire eleven years before covid -- once I booked a trip, it was happening.

In 2020, we all learned that everything is subject to change. Now, leaving room for travel plans to change feels incredibly liberating!

We actually can have it both ways -- making future travel plans we’re excited about while still having space for things to adjust as needed.

Indie travel is all about freedom, including the freedom to change your mind.

Have you ever rearranged or canceled your big travel plans? 🌍

I’d love to hear about your experience! Hit reply and tell me all the things!

FYI -- with all the info we cover in the How to Plan Your Own Fun, Unique, and Affordable International Trips course (now you get lifetime access to all the content!) you’ll see how to find and book flexible options for your own trips.

You can still use the code EMAIL15 to get a 15% discount. The website still needs updating, but I want you to know about the changes. 😊

Indie Travel Inspiration

In my quest to rest and reset, I came across a few articles with destinations you may love next time you want to get off the beaten path or away from it all!

That’s all for this week, my friend! I hope you’re enjoying this first week of fall as much as I am!

I’d love to hear about any of your upcoming travel plans and how you’re putting them together, if you feel like sharing. 😊

Have a wonderful rest of your day and I’ll see you in a couple weeks (I’m taking at least a week off when I get to Toronto!).

Cheers,

Annie

P.S. There won’t be an Indie Travel Dispatch next week (maybe two). I’m taking some much needed time away to process wtf just happened and give myself a chance to reset. 👋

Hey Reader! It’s been one hell of a hot minute since we’ve connected! When I decided to stop writing the Indie Travel Dispatch, I truly didn’t imagine that it would be nearly a year before I’d be back. 🤯 I have no desire to rehash the chaos of 2023, so let’s just say it was a wild ride -- some of the hardest moments of my life mixed with some of the most incredible ones too. Now that the dust has (mostly) settled, I finally have space to think about what comes next. While travel will always...

Hey Reader! It’s the last day of February (my least favorite month), and I’m celebrating by getting ready to welcome Spring. This time of year always brings big changes in my world and this one is no exception. There’s a lot to share with you in this email, so it’s a bit longer than usual. I hope you’ll stick with me. Truth: Life is one grand exercise in letting go. Learning to let go starts when we’re small. Friends move away, our teachers change from year to year and, eventually, we have...

Hey Reader! Here we are. A new year and it’s time for new adventures! Are you ready to explore more this year? Join me on this adventure! 🧭 At the end of 2021, I knew life was going to be wild and that my travels were going to be changing. New experiences and exploration are essential for me, like air or water, so I set the intention to have 100 new experiences over the course of 2022. There were no hard and fast rules, it simply had to give me that little jolt of, “Ooh, this is new and...
